A Scottsdale Pickleball Challenge: Ten Rallies, Then the Putting Green
The mission is simple: keep the ball going long enough for everyone to forget who was supposed to be the competitive one. This gentle backyard challenge at The Rally House is about a shared rally, a new teammate and a little time on the putting green afterward.

Pick a target your group can actually reach
Start with two players facing each other and a few easy practice hits. Choose a shared target—three consecutive returns for beginners, ten if the group is comfortable. Count each successful return aloud and reset when the ball goes out of play.
This is a casual practice idea, not official pickleball scoring or a lesson. Use the court and equipment according to the house instructions, stay within your own ability and leave plenty of space around the players. Spectators can count and cheer from outside the playing area.
Change partners, keep the friendly spirit
After a few attempts, rotate players. With a larger group, make the waiting turn useful: one person counts, one keeps a note of the best rally, and everyone gets another go. Aim to improve the group's own record rather than knock someone out.
Want a twist? Each pair chooses a team name before stepping on court. Award imaginary honors for best team name, best comeback and most encouraging teammate. These are bragging rights only; there is no entry fee, prize or organized event.
Let the weather set the pace
Choose a comfortable part of the day after checking the forecast and conditions. Bring water, take breaks and switch to indoor games if outdoor play does not feel comfortable. The house's quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., so keep all play within permitted hours.
Before packing, confirm what equipment will be available for your stay. Bring suitable footwear and any personal gear you prefer. The plan should fit the people on your trip, not the other way around.
Finish on the five-hole green
When everyone has had a turn, move the friendly rivalry to the five-hole putting green. Choose a starting point for each hole, take turns and count your own strokes. Keep any clubs clear of other guests and follow the property's equipment guidance.
Finish with a break together rather than another round nobody asked for. The private pool and indoor games give your group other ways to spend the day; supervise children around the water. This plan is for registered guests only—The Rally House does not allow parties or events.
