Scottsdale Backyard Golf: The Five-Hole Bragging-Rights Challenge
The trophy is imaginary. The victory speech will be wildly overconfident. Welcome to the five-hole bragging-rights challenge: an easy way to turn a little putting practice at The Rally House into a vacation memory your group will bring up at dinner.

Name the team before you judge the swing
The Rally House has a private five-hole putting green. Start with pairs and let every team choose an unnecessarily grand name: The Desert Legends, The Almost Pros or The Three-Putt Committee. Mix experience levels so the person who plays every week is paired with someone who simply likes the team name.
Check the available putters and balls with the host before your stay. Pick comfortable starting spots on the putting surface and agree on a route through the five holes. Keep the route clear of other guests and away from the pool edge; this game uses gentle putts only.
One ball, two teammates, five holes
Teammates alternate putts until the ball goes in, then switch who takes the first putt at the next hole. Count every putt and write down the team total after each hole. For this homemade game, cap each hole at five strokes so everyone keeps moving. The lowest total wins; nobody needs a handicap calculation.
Let beginners start closer to the cup, and choose those starting points before the round. If your group has an odd number, rotate a scorekeeper into the next round or let a solo player take their own turns. Give each team space to finish before the next team begins.
Make the rematch a different game
After five holes, change partners and play a cooperative round. Choose a modest group target together, then see whether the combined score improves on your first attempt. A player who struggled in the first round can become the person whose last putt brings the group home.
Ties can stay ties. Award an extra imaginary honor for best team name, most encouraging teammate or most dramatic reaction to a very short putt. Skip cash stakes and complicated prizes. A twenty-second victory speech is plenty; the rest of the group may politely demand a rematch.
Know when the lounge chairs have won
Choose a comfortable time for outdoor play, check the forecast and take water breaks. Stop if conditions are uncomfortable. The film also shows the netted practice area, covered dining space, patio lounge and pool; these are real property photos, not footage of guests playing the challenge.
Keep this a casual activity for registered guests. No parties or events are allowed, and quiet hours are 10 p.m.–7 a.m. Adults should supervise children around the pool. When your group has had enough putting, settle in for a quiet debrief and let the scoreboard rest.
